University Legal Services Overview

University Legal Services (ULS) is a private, non-profit, 501(c)(3), community-based organization that provides counseling, legal and technical assistance to low and moderate income persons throughout the District of Columbia. The doors first opened in the summer of 1968, when ULS’ founders assisted persons affected by the riots then sweeping the city providing legal assistance and housing counseling.

Today ULS' staff of nearly 40 persons serve a variety of public interest programs.  Beyond the traditional service areas of affordable housing counseling, tenant purchase technical assistance and cooperative asset management ULS also works on several other Federal and District of Columbia public interest services contracts. Those contracts include protection and advocacy and assistive techonology services for persons with disabilities.
